Director/Instructor/Founder
Believe it or not, Kate Guzy actually discovered her passion for clogging as a teenager in South Florida! She competed in FL with the Kats Kloggers and danced recreationally with the Lighthouse Cloggers until college. In 1998, she became a certified instructor through the Florida Clogging Council’s certification process. After moving to Asheville for college, she discovered and fell in love with the world of traditional clogging with the local team, Southern Mountain Fire. During her time at UNC Asheville, Kate founded and taught the Bulldog Stompers on campus that performed at University events and all around Asheville. After graduating, she founded a non-profit clogging team – the Mountain Thunder Cloggers – which she still instructs and directs today. Kate became a Nationally Certified Clogging Instructor and also a Competitive Clogging Judge in 2005. She has taught at various workshops and dance studios across the Southeast, as well as had the honor of judging countless regional competitions and national championships throughout the years. Kate currently performs locally with traditional Western NC teams – Appalachain Mountaineers and Blue Ridge Heritage Cloggers – as well as her own team.
